The Partnerships in Education program's original purpose was to provide opportunities for public schools in West Virginia to interact with local businesses by establishing mutually beneficial partnerships. Today, the mission of the program is to nurture and strengthen existing partnerships that support college and career readiness. The Education Alliance provides tools and resources for forming or enhancing a business and school partnership.

Project Description

Statistics have proven that it takes more than schools to ensure student success. Today more than ever the business community can and does play a vital role in public school education. The facts are scary; more than 6,900 West Virginia students dropped out of high school in 2009. That equates to $1.8 billion lost lifetime earnings in West Virginia for that class of dropouts alone.

In 1984, The Education Alliance established its second program entitled the Partnerships in Education program to provide opportunities for public schools in West Virginia to interact with local businesses by establishing mutually beneficial partnerships. In 1999, Partnerships in Education became the first program of its kind in the nation to link 100 percent of public schools in a state with at least one business partner. Today, the mission of the program is to nurture and strengthen existing partnerships that support college and career readiness.

Business and school partners are encouraged to formalize their relationship with a signing ceremony. Partnerships in Education certificates are available from The Education Alliance. Contact Caroline Goodall at (304)342-7850 to learn more about Partnerships in Education.
