Approximately 225 business, community and education leaders gathered at the Charleston Civic Center on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 for the Excellence in Education: It’s Everyone’s Business summit. This event was co-hosted by The Education Alliance and Governor Earl Ray Tomblin in an effort to raise awareness about West Virginia’s critical need to provide every child with a quality public education.

The Summit was kicked off with a keynote address by Governor Earl Ray Tomblin. Participants then had the unique opportunity to hear success stories from the Foundation for Excellence in Education experts and the progress of the West Virginia State Board of Education by Gayle Manchin and Lloyd Jackson.

In the afternoon, the conversation was expanded further with reactions from a West Virginia Panel composed of legislators, business leaders, a county board of education member, a county superintendent, teacher organizations and a student. At the end of the day participants had the opportunity to share their opinions, suggestions and ask questions in a townhall meeting moderated by th Honorable Gaston Capterton.
