Whether engaging
students in a new curriculum unit or complementing required summer reading
lists, book trunks are ideal for any type of classroom learning atmosphere.
Book Trunks are
a free service of The Education Alliance, available to any West Virginia
public schoolteacher. Working as a library system, trunks with up to 110
books are loaned out for up to three months. The Education Alliance pays to
ship the book trunk to the school, and the school pays postage to return
the trunk. Teachers may borrow only one trunk at a time. The Alliance has
the resources to supply up to 30 different trunks.
Educators can
select trunks for kindergarten through eighth-grade classes with different
themes, gender specifications or curriculum requirements that best suit
their needs. Fiction and non-fiction books are available for reading levels
grades K through 2, 3 through 5 and 6 through 8.
Book trunks can
be ordered to include books based on cultural or subject areas of study,
including math and science. Many of the books in the math and science
trunks are selected to capture the interest of the students including
Grossology and You, 1,000 Questions and Answers, Spy Science, Detective
Science and Sports Science. Book series are also available, including the
popular A-to-Z Mysteries, Black Lagoon, Deltora Quest, Junie B. Jones,
Magic School Bus and Magic Tree House.
Two copies of
books are also available for Partner Reads. Partner Reads allows two
students to read the same book and share their ideas and thoughts with one
another through structured classroom projects or reading in their free
time.
