Eligibility

Mini-Grants for Classroom Projects funding is available exclusively to teachers and school personnel who teach Pre-K through 12th-grade students in a classroom setting on a regular basis. Only educators who are part of the West Virginia Public School System are eligible to apply.

If a teacher has previously won a mini-grant from The Education Alliance, the final reports of all previous projects must be submitted prior to applying for another mini-grant, unless other arrangements have been made with The Education Alliance.

Limitations

The Education Alliance maintains restrictions on items funded by the Mini-Grant program so that a maximum number of students can directly benefit from the winning projects. It is with that mindset that the following items generally are not approved by the review committee for Mini-Grant funding:

  • Large equipment items such as televisions, DVD players, computers, camcorders, etc.

  • Refreshments, luncheons or food from restaurants. The committee does accept food    items prepared by the students or foods related to the project (e.g. international cuisine used while studying another country).

  • Articles of clothing, such as hats or T-shirts.

  • Field trips, bus transportation or payment for services.

  • Teacher training or honoraria.

  • Projects that take place after school hours and eliminate some students from the opportunity to participate.

  • Projects that have already occurred.
