Q: Does neatness count when I am filling out the mini-grant form?

A: Yes! The committee members read through many applications. Catch their attention by typing or writing clearly. Correct grammar, spelling and punctuation are also important. Avoid small, hard-to-read print.

Q: May I submit more than one application for funding?

A: Absolutely. Each application submitted is reviewed based on the project’s individual merit. However, one teacher will not receive funding for more than two (2) mini-grants in one funding cycle.

Q: Should I work with other teachers on my project?

A: It is not mandatory to work with other teachers on your project. However, if it will help make your project more successful, consider collaborating with other teachers on your mini-grant proposal. Do not submit multiple proposals for the same project.

Q: Does the application need to be received by October 21 or postmarked by that date?

A: If the application has been postmarked on or before October 21, it will be accepted.

Q: When will I know if I have been selected to receive a mini-grant?

A: You will be notified whether you do or do not receive a grant by the end of December. You may request that funding for your project be sent as early as January 1. You should keep this time frame in mind when writing your proposal.

Q: How long do I have to complete my project?

A: You have up to one school year to complete your project after receiving your grant money. If unforeseen events delay your project, you must call the Alliance and ask for an extension. It is very important that you keep us informed about changes in your project. A final report, receipts and any unused money must be returned to the Alliance or you will be ineligible for future grants and awards.

Q: I’m having a hard time getting started. Do you have any suggestions?

A: The hardest step is coming up with a good idea and expressing it clearly. Think about your needs. Build your project around those needs. Write all of your ideas down on paper, then go back later to refine them.
