In 2003 The Education Alliance, West Virginia’s statewide public
education fund, received funding from the Claude Worthington Benedum
Foundation to sponsor a research project that demonstrates and studies the
effectiveness of school-business partnerships. This project, called
Results-based Partnerships, allows the Alliance to quantify and assess the
effectiveness of partnerships in relationship to the academic needs of
schools.
The Alliance works cooperatively with partnerships in West Virginia, the
West Virginia Department of Education and a third-party
evaluator/researcher to implement this research project. Partnerships are
selected based on the following criteria:
Business partners selected must have sufficient resources to assist their
partner school.
Each partner
must demonstrate a strong commitment to bringing about systemic change
that will improve the academic performance of the school.
Schools
selected will be diverse in terms of geography, areas “needing
improvement” and the educational level of the school (elementary,
middle/junior high and high school).
