Prior to initiation of this project, schools and business partners, as well as The Education Alliance, the West Virginia Department of Education and a third-party evaluator/researcher committed to their responsibilities as follows:

School's Responsibilities

  Participate in a training session to learn more about the project and their responsibilities.

  Work cooperatively and enthusiastically with the business partner on the project to develop an academic plan of action focusing on specific quantifiable goals and to implement that plan.

  Share school data with the business partner and with The Education Alliance.

  Report the number of hours dedicated to the project, as well as anecdotal information, to The Education Alliance.

  Agree to have their results published as part of this groundbreaking research project.

Business Partner’s responsibilities
  Participate in a training session to learn more about the project and their responsibilities.

  Work cooperatively and enthusiastically with the school on the project to develop an academic plan of action focusing on specific quantifiable goals and to implement that plan.

  Examine and dissect school data as part of the project, lending business expertise to this effort.

  Have their results published as part of this groundbreaking research project.
Report the number of employee hours dedicated to this project, as well as anecdotal information, to The Education Alliance.
The Education Alliance’s responsibilities
  Work cooperatively with the West Virginia Department of Education to conduct a training session for school and business representatives on No Child Left Behind data, methods of improving low-performing schools, ways of improving partnerships and resources available to help the pilot partnerships.

  Spearhead the project, providing assistance and advice to partnerships, the West Virginia Department of Education and a third-party evaluator/researcher.

  Contract with a third-party evaluator/researcher to ensure the integrity of the project and of the project’s findings.

  Share all findings with partnerships and the other interested organizations.
West Virginia Department of Education’s responsibilities
  Agree to work cooperatively with The Education Alliance to conduct a training session for school and business representatives on No Child Left Behind data, methods of improving low-performing schools, ways of improving partnerships and resources available.

  Share pertinent data with schools, business partners, The Education Alliance and a third-party evaluator/researcher.

  Third-party evaluator’s/researcher’s responsibilities

  Develops surveys and research instruments that quantifies progress made by each school in its academic plan of action on specific goals.

  Communicates findings in a research monograph for public dissemination.

  Work with the Alliance to ensure that research conducted is unbiased and relevant.
