Governor Bob Wise announced on June 13, 2002, that West
Virginia will participate in a groundbreaking national research and public
engagement project that focuses on teaching quality in all 55 counties.
The project was headed by The Education Alliance, West Virginia's public
education fund and supported by a three-year, $550,000 grant from the
Annenberg Foundation through the Public Education Network
West Virginia and The Education Alliance became one of
five national sites to take part in the Teaching Quality Initiative (TQI),
designed to generate understanding and respect among all education
stakeholders, and place emphasis on the need for communities to take
responsibility for the quality of teaching in their local school systems.
Family Resource Networks facilitated the discussions in many communities.
